15-44-EN The washing of the feet

R. They were at supper
When Jesus showed his love.
He rose from the table
To wash their feet.
Our Lord gave the example
And showed to his disciples.
If there is love among you,
God is in your midst.

1. Lord, do you wash my feet ?
If I do not wash your feet,
Then you can have no part in me.

2. Lord, do you wash my feet ?
As for now, you do not understand.
Later all I have done will be clear.

3. If I then, your master and Lord,
Have served by washing your feet,
Surely you must also follow me,
You must wash each other’s feet as I have done.

4. This is how all people will know
That you are disciples of mine :
If all can see there is love among you.

5. I give you a new commandment :
Love one another as I,
As I have loved you.
